Have you heard about Mary Anne?

Hi! My name is Mary Anne Mushatt. I’m a proud mother of two grown sons, wife to a wonderful man, an oral historian and community activist. And I’m incredibly proud to be OUR candidate in the very important Louisiana State Senate District 9 race against longtime incumbent politician Cameron Henry.

I graduated from Fairfield University, a Jesuit school in 1981. I’ve lived here for more than three decades, and married my husband, David, in 1998.

David is a respected and well loved doctor and the Section Chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases at Tulane University School of Medicine. My oldest son, John, now lives and works in Detroit, and my younger son, Jacob, is away at college in San Diego.

I’m incredibly proud to be a published author and oral historian with fixed collections at the Amistad Center at Tulane. I formerly worked in administration at Tulane, as well as a writer in their Development Office. When my mother-in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, I co-founded Alzheimer’s Services of the Crescent City, where we gathered information for families, and created a Respite Program. I am also a published author specializing in historical novels.

In addition to sharing my home with my husband, and especially now that my sons live out of state, I’m devoted to our rescue dogs, Herbie, a mixed breed from our vet, and a re-homed rescue beagle named Cardi Beagle. I’m also a passionate gardener - because how could I not be living in the most beautiful neighborhood in our state?
